In 1993, Constantin Chiriac (actor and Professor, Ph.D. at LBUS) founded the Sibiu International Theater Festival, one of the most important theater and performing arts festivals in the world, the third largest in Europe. In numbers, this annual festival means 10 days, with over 3,300 invited artists from over 70 countries, more than 570 events, with over 70,000 spectators per day (of which half of the spectators are from abroad), more than 600 volunteers and another 200 members of the organizational staff.

Additionally, the Sibiu International Theater Festival, Lucian Blaga University of Sibiu (through the Department of Theater Art) and Radu Stanca National Theater organize each year The Festival of Theater Universities and Cultural Management, the most important event of its kind in Europe, which presents to the public the reference performances of theater schools around the world.
